Oversized Gutter Systems
Does your Westchester County home need 6″ Oversized Gutters?
There are many factors that determine if your home requires oversized gutters, or oversized gutter elements and my team will be able to make that assessment during your estimate. The largest factor is your roofs size (area) and pitch.
Larger roofs benefit from larger (oversized gutters) to measure your roof and determine your roof’s square footage you can take a few simple measurements, follow this link it will teach you how to determine your roofs volume.
In Westchester, modern homes tend to have more complex roofline peaks and valleys that allow large amounts of water to run in some places and collect in others. These homes benefit from oversized gutter systems my team will be happy to point out trouble areas and provide plans for an oversized gutter solution.
Some homes need gutters that are even bigger than the standard oversized six-inch gutter, and we can create gutter systems that run both 7 and 8-inch sizes. These gutters are most commonly used on commercial or industrial-sized buildings and are not suitable for residential homes – in most cases.

Oversized Gutters Westchester NY – Bigger homes and commercial buildings need bigger gutters in order to safely bring water from the roof to the ground. When dealing with large volumes of water, property owners should consider oversized gutters and downspouts. On larger homes and buildings, larger gutters and downspouts create a large impact when the rain comes.
Rain gutters are not a one size fits all system. Be wary of any gutter installation company that tells you otherwise. If you live in a modern custom home or an older home in one of Westchester’s historic neighborhoods, your home has unique features that must be considered during the seamless gutter installation design process.
At George’s Seamless Gutters all of our seamless gutters are made to order. This allows my team to provide seamless gutters that never leak, sag or falter during heavy rains…and I mean heavy rain. Water weighs about eight pounds per gallon. That is what makes oversized gutters and oversized downspouts such an important part of my rain gutter offering.

When looking for a gutter system for a larger home or commercial building, 6” gutters are the way to go. 6” gutters are perfect for areas of your roof where lower gutters have upper gutters draining into them or where there are long runs or valleys where water can travel at great speeds and overflow more easily. If the design of the project will not allow for the addition of extra downspouts to drain the water away from the home’s foundation faster and in a substantial volume, larger gutters are the best and safest solution.

Oversized gutters are only 1 inch bigger than standard gutters, but that small difference makes a big impact!
One inch might not seem like much but when it is one inch of water – it is a lot more gutter than you think! Larger gutters move more water. Oversized six-inch gutters can redirect more than 35% of the water volume than a standard seamless 5” gutter system can.
The purpose of gutter downspouts is to bring the rainwater from your gutter system to the ground level and direct it away from the base of your house. Getting the water out of the gutter and downspout system is critical to the health of your office buildings, commercial building or large private home. Having water pool at the base of your home or building can destroy foundations, leak inside or create dangerous ice patches. Having a larger oversized gutters & downspout and proper drainage for your project is necessary to avoid all of these possible and costly problems.
5” seamless gutters fit the needs of most residential homes in Westchester County. When looking for a gutter system for a larger home or commercial building, 6” oversized gutters are the way to go.
Oversized gutters are paired with oversized downspouts and can handle; more water, more debris, and more runoff. Oversized gutters are also well suited for integration into standard gutter systems, in areas of your roof where lower gutters have upper gutters draining into them; or where there are long runs where water can travel at great speeds and overflow easily.
When my team installs 6” gutters, we pair them with an equally efficient oversized downspout to make sure the system works at peak performance year round. At George’s Seamless Gutters, we offer oversized gutters and downspouts in aluminum and copper.

Bigger Gutters are Not Always Better
The size of the gutters your home needs will depend greatly on where you live, your house type, and your roof runs. The size, angle of your roof slope, etc., have a lot to do with how much water your roof puts off and, in turn, how much water your gutters need to manage. Large gutters also known as oversized gutters, such as 6″, 7″, or even 8″ gutters, can carry a lot more water than standard 5 in gutters; how much? To give you some idea, even though a 6″ gutter is only one inch bigger than a standard 5″ gutter, it will handle up to 40% more water add to this equation, the bigger downspouts that go with these gutters that can let more debris pass through them, making them less likely to get clogged and the math is simple. But all of this said, not all homes; in fact, many homes need oversized gutters. So, no bigger gutters are always better.
